Honeypot

A decoy system or resource designed to attract and trap attackers in order to detect, study, or delay malicious activity.

What is Honeypot?

Honeypots can be deployed inside a network to identify lateral movement or at the perimeter to study attacker techniques. Any interaction with a honeypot is inherently suspicious, making them a high-fidelity source of threat intelligence with very few false positives.

Understanding this concept is crucial for maintaining a robust security posture. In the context of modern cyber threats, honeypot represents a significant area of focus for security professionals and organizations alike.
